Welcome to Durham Botanicals website and online store

I’m back from Asia and things here are getting back to normal. Normal being my having 26 hours worth of work to fit into 24. But I’m sure you’re busy too and didn’t drop by the site to read about my woes.
As many of you already know I always bring a select group of grafted Thai Plumeria varieties back this time of the year. We normally keep these plants until they are established in 3 gallon pots before offering them for sale, but we’ll be releasing them sooner and at reduced prices this season due to the many requests we’ve received from you asking for earlier availability.
The recent disaster in Japan severely affected many of our cacti and succulent sources, but I still managed to put together a very nice collection of unusual variegated Gymnocalycium, Astrophytums, and a few other miscellaneous mutated varieties. We’ll be making these available both on the site and in the eBay store shortly.
The most significant news to report is on our Adeniums. The Adenium arabicum projects, especially the Compact and Thai socotranum lines, are getting better by the season. The results of last years breeding were amazing, even if I do say so myself, so we’ll be able to offer a nice set of 2010 hold-back plants for sale soon along with a group of super 2011 plants. You won’t want to miss these, so be sure to check back often.
Our flowering hybrid Adeniums projects are also showing great improvement. We’ll be releasing some exciting new varieties soon. These will include the next generation of Red Velvet along with some exciting additions to our Tea Rose line of double and triple flowering plants.
I stopped off in Taiwan for a couple days on my way back to the states and got together with a few Adenium breeders who have been working with common lines. We swapped stories, notes, and cuttings. This new stock is grafted up and growing here in Florida and in Thailand now. It takes time to fully evaluate new Adenium hybrids but the initial impression is that we’ve got at least a couple that will be suitable for the commercial market.
Interest in succulent bonsai continues to grow at an amazing rate. We’ve stepped up our production of caudiciform Euphorbia and are testing several new species. If all goes we’ll have a better selection available for sale next year.
We’ll make an earnest attempt to keep both the email Special Offers and news posts up to date going forward, so be sure to sign up for the Special Offers and don’t forget to check both our online shop and eBay store for our latest listings. You're sure to see some tempting goodies.
